Saint Cecilia Singers in concert at Gloucester Cathedral
Readings, carols and seasonal music including works from Lauridsen, Praulins, Victoria, Weir, Mathias, Rutter, Sanders
“The choir was in tremendous form throughout” (Gloucestershire Echo) link to the full review

Music ranged from the 16th century – represented by the smoothly interweaving strands of Victoria’s Ave Maria – to a carol, melodious and utterly characteristic, composed this year by the ubiquitous John Rutter.
The programme was a satisfying assortment of the familiar and unfamiliar. We heard Silent Night, the Sussex Carol and were moved once again by Harold Darke’s incomparable and unforgettable In the Bleak Midwinter. Less familiar were four carols by William Mathias and the Gloria by the contemporary Estonian composer Ugis Praulins, high drama in explosive performances.

Musik zu dem Märchen »Die Nachtigall«
von Hans Christian Andersen

Dirigent: Klaas Stok

4 & 9 AUG 2013 @20:00
Paddington Uniting Church, 395 Oxford Street 2021 Paddington Paddington 2021,
Sydney, Australia

Bel a cappella’s second concert of 2013, Baltic Voices, takes the audience on a journey into the captivating world of the Baltic region. This concert will be performed in Paddington Uniting Church at 8pm on Friday 9th August.

Musical Director Anthony Pasquill has brought together secular and sacred works by 20th Century composers from Estonia, Latvia, Sweden and Finland that capture the spirit of the Baltic region.

From Latvia the program features Missa Rigensis by Uģis Prauliņš written in the style of the great Renaissance Masses ‘without overwhelming force or volume’. Prauliņš’ background in choirs as a child and rock bands in the 1970s and 1980s shines through in this beautiful and varied work.

The program also features Swedish composer Sven-David Sandström with his twelve-part choral work Kom till mig composed in 2010 and his 1986 composition Hear my prayer, O Lord. Beginning with Henry Purcell’s unfinished work from 300 years earlier Sandström gradually strays from Purcell’s familiar prayer to an eerie and lonely place before turning again to the light.
Bel a cappella will perform works from Estonian composers including Urmas Sisask’s Benedictio and Arvo Pärt’s Da Pacem Domine.

Bel a cappella is a chamber choir dedicated to the performance of diverse, high quality choral music in fine venues around Sydney. Recent performances include Rachmaninov’s Vespers (in Russian) and Australian premieres of Dyson’s Hierusalem and Vasks’ Missa.

CHORAL CONCERT PRESENTS 'MYSTERIOUS WORLDS'
posted by Jeff Reilly on May 03, 2013

This week on CHORAL CONCERT, Peter Togni brings us mysterious worlds: ethereal sounds that evoke fairy tales, distant lands and cloud-capped mountains; music that invokes mysterious places.

In this encore presentation of Choral Concert, Peter Togni will focus on the pure voices and wonderful intonation of Pro Coro Canada, an emerging contender in Canada’s professional choral scene. Pro Coro Canada is enjoying its first season with conductor Michael Zaugg, a true rising star in this country, and a man to be watched.

They present a concert called Once Upon a Time from Edmonton’s Winspear Centre. It’s a concert full of legends, heroes and far away places — a tribute to Hans Christian Andersen and William Butler Yeats, among others, and it’s full of ravishing textures and truly excellent singing.

You will hear the music of Bo Holten, Ugis Praulins, and the Nova Scotian composer and rising star, Cy Giacomin.

Choral Concert, the "mysterious worlds" edition. Sunday, May 5, 2013, 9:00 - 11:00 a.m., (9:30 - 11:30 NT) on CBC Radio 2.

From Trinity College Choir's tradition of fostering the choral music of the Baltics (much of it part of the famous 'Singing Revolution', a musical, yet political resistance to Soviet tyranny), there's an Easter mass by Ugis Praulins for the vast acoustic of the cathedral in Riga: in Latin, Rigensis.

...When we got to the rehearsal, Pro Coro was practicing “Laudibus in sanctis” by Latvian composer Ugis Praulins (with lots of squiggles over the letters, but help me if I know how to do that on this computer). (Editor’s note: Uģis Prauliņš.) It is such a great piece filled with Baltic melodies, and they sing it so beautifully. I could see everyone in our group captivated by it, and all the fatigue we were feeling evaporate as we realized how good tomorrow’s concert is going to be. Vancouver Chamber Choir On Tour: http://vccontour.blogspot.com/2013/02
