WP 2020-10-24 @Cesis. Sinfonietta Rīga & Fusion trio. Normunds Šnē, conductor.
The biggest event of the evening will be Uģis Prauliņš’s new work “Elements”, whose genre designation is “Eclectic (con)Fusion Symphony in Rock”. Born and raised behind the Iron Curtain, Prauliņš, like Emerson, is a connector of the classical and non-academic world of sounds – with a rock musician’s nerve, but with a huge interest in folk music. “This work is a compilation of my previous experience. Here are respectful and experimental testimonials to the manuscripts and atmospheres of your past ideals and inspirations in music. It is strange, even shocking, to see your name on the poster next to the great inspirer Keith Emerson. Positively ironically – already in the first part of the symphony there is a fairly direct allusion to the outstanding “ELP” concept composition “Tarkus”, the main theme of which has often inspired me to create compositions. This new work is experimental, and I am interested in how the chosen motif and texture solution will sound together. Thank you to everyone who took this risk – to go on such a trip, and to the listeners who will patiently dedicate their evening to the premiere in Cēsis, ” Uģis Prauliņš comments on his new work.
